1 Dead, 2 Seriously Injured In Landslide In Vasai In Maharashtra’s Palghar

Mumbai: At least one person died and two others were seriously injured in a landslide incident in the Vasai area of Maharashtra’s Palghar district amid heavy rains, the District Collector said. At least two persons have been rescued so far and three are still feared trapped.

He said a search was on for any other family member and efforts were on to find out if more people were trapped under the debris.

A team of local firefighters and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.

Vivekananda Kadam, head of the District Disaster Management Cell, said that a stone fell on the house of Anil Singh (45) from a hill at around 6.30 am after a landslide at Vaghralpada in the Rajavali area of ​​Vasai and he died.

His wife Vandana Singh (40) and son Om Singh (12) were buried under the debris. He was later rescued by some local people and firefighters and admitted to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, he said.

The NDRF personnel also pulled out Anil Singh’s body from the rubble at around 10.30 am, the official said.

Another member of the family, Roshni Singh (16), was being searched. He said rescuers were also trying to find out if anyone else was trapped under the rubble.

The district, located about 100 km from the state capital Mumbai, has been witnessing very heavy rains since Tuesday night which caused water logging in many low-lying areas.
