100 More Airports By 2024, Rs 1.7 Lakh Cr Allocated For Transport Infrastructure: Nirmala Sitharaman

Mumbai: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that Rs 1.7 lakh crore has been allocated for transport infrastructure in the Union Budget 2020-21 added that 100 more airports will be developed by 2024 to support the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme.

Sitharaman said, “India’s domestic aviation sector is growing and the UDAN plan has contributed to the growth. By 2024, 100 more airports will be developed to support the UDAN plan.”

The Centre’s scheme UDAN was launched with the objective of making air travel affordable for the common citizens of the country.

She said that more Tejas-like trains would be developed in India. “Around 1,150 trains will run under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. We will redevelop four railway stations with the help of the private sector. In addition, more Tejas type trains will be developed to connect the iconic tourist destinations.”

Sitharaman said that a proposal was underway to install large solar panel capacity along railway tracks on land owned by railways.

The Union Minister said that Rs 1.7 lakh crore has been provided for the transportation infrastructure in the Union Budget.
