100 Years Of Jallianwala Bagh, PM Modi And President Ramnath Kovind Pays Tribute

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovind paid tribute to those who lost their lives in Jallianwala Bagh massacre which took place 100 years ago.

PM Narendra Modi tweeted saying, “Today, when we observe 100 years of the horrific Jallianwala Bagh massacre, India pays tributes to all those martyred on that fateful day,” he said.

“Their valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their memory inspires us to work even harder to build an India they would be proud of,” he added.

President Ramnath Kovind tweeted in Hindi which is translated here, “100 years ago, our beloved freedom fighters were martyred in Jallianwala Bagh. That is a stigma on the horrific genocide civilization. India can never forget that day of sacrifice. Our tribute to the immortal sacrifices of Jallianwala Bagh in their sacred memory.”

The massacre took place on April 13, 1919, when Colonel Reginald Dyer commanded soldiers of the British Indian Army to foil the unarmed protesters and crowd of pilgrims, who had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab on the occasion of Baisakhi.
