12 Dead, 1.4 Lakh Rescued From Flood-Hit Areas: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: Normal life disrupted after heavy showers hit Maharashtra’s Kolhapur and Sangli district.

CM Devendra Fadnavis stated that around 12 people died whereas over 1.4 lakh people have been shifted from flood-affected areas in the state.

“So far 12 people have lost their lives while eight people are missing and two are injured. At least 1,43,000 people have also been rescued from 101 flood-hit villages in the state,” Fadnavis told in a press conference here.

About 306 shelter homes have been built for those rescued from the flood. More than 35,000 animals are also being kept in relief camps.

“As the water level is decreasing, relief operations take precedence. A team of 100 doctors is being sent to Kolhapur and Sangli. We using boats to provide as much food as possible to the people trapped in the floods. 95 are working in Sangli, “said Fadnavis.

Fadnavis said, “Indian Navy teams from Visakhapatnam are arriving here today as the Shirol area in Kolhapur is severely affected. There are some places where boats cannot reach. The NDRF will go to these areas to provide relief.”

“We are also providing relief to the stranded people by providing cash. Banks have also been advised to provide assistance,” he said.

“Fadnavis also informed that Rs 153 crore has been released for flood relief operations.

“Now that the water is starting to recede, we will focus on providing drinking water and restoring electricity in the affected areas,” he added.

Crop in around 27,467 hectares of land has been affected due to the floods.

The heavy rains have disrupted the normalcy of life in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala. It is forecasted that heavy rains will continue for the next twenty-four hours in these states.

States like Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha are the Nine state that has been hit hard by the incessant rains.
