18 Dead Across Maharashtra During Ganapati Idol Immersion

Mumbai: Whole India was in celebration of immersion of Ganesh idols on the last evening of 11 days Ganesh festival on the other hands at least 18 persons drowned in separate incidents.

In all over Maharashtra around 18 people their lives as they drowned during immersion of Ganesh idols.

Officials said the immersion started on Thursday, Anant Chaturdashi, continued in many parts of Mumbai, Pune and Sangli.

Incidents of drowning were recorded in 11 districts in Amravati, Nashik, Thane, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Dhule, Bhandara, Nanded, Ahmednagar, Akola and Satara, which included 18 people, an official said. Has gone.

The dead included four in Amravati, three in Ratnagiri, two each in Nashik, Sindhudurg and Satara, one each in Thane, Dhule, Buldhana, Akola and Bhandara.

In neighbouring Thane, a 15-year-old boy, identified as Kalpesh Jadhav of Kasara, drowned while immersing a Ganapati idol. An official said the incident occurred at 7:30 pm on Thursday evening.

He said the ashes of four persons who were participating in immersion in the Poorna river in Vatol Shukleshwar village of Amravati on Thursday, were taken out.

Police said two people drowned in Nashik, three were rescued and one is missing.

The dead were identified as Prashant Patil (38), who drowned near Ramkund on the banks of the Godavari river in Nashik city, and Yuvraj Rathod (28), who drowned in a pond in the village near the temple town of Trimbakeshwar.

Three people were rescued by lifeguards and fire brigade personnel near Someshwar Falls in Nashik.
The police officer said Soma Shivankar was identified by drowning in a pond in Dolsar village in Bhandara district.

Chaitanya Shinde (20), a resident of Malkapur, was swept away by the Koyna river in Karad in Satara district.

In Akola, Vicky Mor (27) was feared drowned during immersion in a waterlogged mine, an official said, adding that the area was cordoned off but devotees cut the fence to immerse the idols.
