18-Year-Old Model Found Dead In Kolkata, 3rd Such Incident In A Week

Mumbai: An 18-year-old model and make-up artist, Saraswati Das, has been found dead at her residence in Kolkata.

The body of 18-year-old Saraswati Das, who was also a make-up artist, was found hanging in the room of her residence at Bediadanga in the Kasba area on Sunday, police said.

A senior police officer said that a preliminary investigation has revealed that Saraswati, who modelled for small enterprises and received several offers, allegedly committed suicide on Saturday night.

“It appears to be a case of suicide, but we need to look at other angles as well. Saraswati’s grandmother was the first to spot her… She quickly took the girl to a nearby hospital, which informed us. We did the post-mortem. The report is awaited.”

The officer said police are also trying to ascertain whether Saraswati had any links with three other models Manjusha Niyogi, Bidisha D Majumdar and television actor Pallabi Dey, all of whom died of suspected suicide.

“The girl it seems died by suicide on Saturday night after her mother and aunt left for work. We have seized her mobile phone and are checking her activity in the social networking platforms in connection with our investigation,” the officer added.

He said Saraswati’s father had left the family in childhood and was raised by his mother and aunt, both of whom worked to help.
