184 Defence Personnel Died Due To COVID-19: Defence Ministry

Mumbai: Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt said on Monday in Rajya Sabha that 184 defence personnel have died due to coronavirus.

According to details provided by Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Defense, 47 soldiers were martyred in the Indian Air Force and four in the Indian Navy.

Responding to a question, Bhatt said 42,527 positive COVID-19 cases were reported in the Army, while the number stood at 13,249 in the Indian Air Force.

He said 6,688 positive COVID-19 cases were reported in the Navy.

He said, “As per the extant rules, no special compensation is given to the Armed Forces personnel for deaths due to infectious disease while in service. However, all such cases of death while in service are provided terminal benefits,” he said.

Replying to another question, the minister said that 29 women officers who did not opt ​​for permanent commission in Special Selection Board No.

“Out of these 29 officers, three women officers were released without pension based on their own option/willingness as these officers had served between 10-14 years of service in the Army,” Bhatt said.
