1st Agniveers To Join Our Centres By Dec, Will Be Deployment-Ready By Mid-2023: Army Chief

Mumbai: As the Union government is yet to announce the official date for the launch of the Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande on Friday said that the training of the first Agniveers will start in December 2022 and active service will start in mid-2023.

In an exclusive conversation with ANI today, the Indian Army Chief said, “The recruitment process is going to start soon. Within the next two days, a notification will be issued on the official website. “As far as Agniveers going to the recruitment training centres are concerned, the training of the first Agnives at the centres will start this December (in 2022). Active service will start in the middle of 2023,” he said.

Notably, COVID-19 halted Army recruitment for more than two years. The army recruited jawans in 2019-2020 and since then there has been no entry. On the other hand, the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force both recruited in the last two years respectively.

Violent protests against the central government’s Agnipath scheme for recruitment in the armed forces continued across Bihar on Thursday, with hundreds of aspirants disrupting rail and road traffic while police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.

Granting a one-time waiver, the Centre on June 16, 2022, announced that the Agniveer upper age limit for recruitments via Agnipath Scheme has been extended to 23 years from 21 years.
