2 Bangladeshis Detected In Assam, Pushed Back: CM Himanta
Mumbai: Two Bangladeshi nationals who illegally crossed into India were detected and deported from Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday. The duo was apprehended at Badarpur railway station and swiftly sent back to Bangladesh on Friday night.
The individuals, identified as Masum Khan, a resident of an area under Modelganj police station in Bangladesh, and Sonia Akhtar from Dhaka, reportedly entered India through the Madhoppur (Bangladesh)-Agartala route. They were en route to Bengaluru, according to Chief Minister Sarma.
“Two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Badarpur railway station by @assampolice,” Sarma wrote on X.
“In collaboration with the BSF (Border Security Force), Assam Police successfully pushed them back across the border last night,” Sarma stated, underscoring the coordinated effort to prevent illegal immigration.
The chief minister also revealed that, in the past month, over 30 Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter India without valid documents have been intercepted and deported from Assam. These individuals were reportedly heading to Bengaluru and other South Indian cities in search of employment in the textile industry.
The state government has intensified border security measures, particularly in light of the recent surge in attempts by Bangladeshi nationals to cross into India. Authorities have emphasized the need for strict enforcement to prevent illegal immigration and maintain national security.
As Assam continues to deal with the challenges posed by illegal crossings, the collaboration between state police forces and the BSF remains crucial in ensuring the integrity of the international border.
