20-Year-Old Dies By Suicide After Boyfriend Blocks Her On WhatsApp In Mumbai: Police

Mumbai: A 20-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her boyfriend’s house in Mumbai after he blocked her number on WhatsApp following an argument with her, police said. Inspector Anil Kadam said police have seized their mobile phones.

The woman, identified as Pranali Lokare, was found hanging on Monday morning.

“The deceased and her 27-year-old boyfriend had known each other for the past six months. On Sunday night, the two attended someone’s wedding, after which the woman insisted that she wanted to stay at his house overnight. However, he did not entertain her demand and asked her to go home,” the official said.

She left but soon began calling her boyfriend and then insisting that she wanted to come to his house. He said the man advised him not to do so, saying that many addicts roam the area at night and later blocked their number on WhatsApp.

However, later the woman reached his house and asked him to block her on WhatsApp.

“She stayed at her place but was allegedly hung from the ceiling using her ‘dupatta’ when the boyfriend went out of the house for some time. When her boyfriend came back, he was shocked to see her hanging. Preliminary Based on the information, Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) Station registered an accidental death report (ADR),” said Police inspector Anil Kadam, adding that no suicide note was found at the spot.

He said, “We have seized the mobile phones of the deceased and her lover. Prima facie it appears that the woman was quite possessive about her lover and her lover was unhappy with this right. They too had decided to get married.”
