20-Year-Old Shuttler Lakshya Sen Wins India’s 20th Gold Medal At CWG 2022

Mumbai: India’s 20-year-old shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the men’s singles final to bag India’s 20th gold at CWG 2022.

This is the first time in CWG history that India bagged both men’s singles and women’s singles gold in badminton in the same edition. He won the match by 19-21, 21-19 and 21-16.

He took the Malaysian challenge head-on and fought hard for the grand prize. Sen and his Malaysian opponent started the opening game almost evenly. Sen took a slight advantage with a 5-4 lead. But Tze Yong didn’t give up and not only took the points but also made Sen work hard for his own points.

Sen continued to fight and eventually made it 19-19. But Tze Yong secured the first game after beating the Indian 19-21. The next game also started as a swing contest, with Tze Yong taking the lead. Sen continued to fight hard for his points, leading 6-6.

Lakshya’s persistence finally resulted in an 11-9 lead midway through the match, which eventually increased to 18-9. Sen won the second game at 21:9 and set up an interesting decider.

The decider also got off to an exciting start as both players fought hard for points. This time Sen was better. In the middle of the game, he led 11:7 to 15:11. Sen finally swung his racket and won in the third game, 21-16, helping him close the game and win gold.
