Mumbai: DMK President MK Stalin praised the upcoming India-China Summit to be held in Mamallapuram, which is a matter of pride for Tamil Nadu and wished the meeting a positive impact for the global community.

Stalin, Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly said that like India, China was also home to an ancient civilization and culture.

“The summit in Tamil Nadu between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping is a matter of pride for the state,” he said in a statement.

The second informal summit between Prime Minister Modi and the Chinese President will begin on 11 October in Mamallapuram.

The ancient rulers of Tamil Nadu — the Pallavas and the Chola emperor Rajaraja — had relations with China, saying that about 2000-year-old Chinese coins were discovered in the state.

He said that Tamil Nadu and China had trade links for many centuries and Chinese monk Xuan Tsang visited Kanchipuram and the summit was now scheduled to take place in Mamallapuram which falls under Kanchipuram district.

Recognizing Mamallapuram as an artistic city that was recognized as a World Heritage Site, Stalin thanked the central government for choosing Tamil Nadu for an informal meeting.

The DMK chief said, “Let the talks come to light not only for both countries but also for the global community (indicating positive impact)”.
