23 MBBS Students Test Positive For COVID-19 At KEM Hospital, Says Mayor Kishori Pednekar

Mumbai: Amid the ongoing preparations to reopen schools in the state, 23 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students from KEM Hospital in Mumbai tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms on Thursday.

Two students have been admitted to Seven Hills Hospital for treatment while the other students have been quarantined at their homes.

Speaking on the matter, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar told ANI, “We are investigating how the student got infected but cultural and sports events organized in the college are likely to spread the infection.”

She said that the reports of this infection are a matter of serious concern, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra has been regularly asking people to follow the COVID-19 protocol properly, even if the person is fully vaccinated.

With 527 new cases, the total number of COVID-19 infections in Mumbai has reached 7,42,538, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data on Wednesday.

The death toll has risen to 16,103 with six more deaths due to the viral infection, he said. With 405 patients being discharged from hospitals, the number of cured in the city rose to 7,19,218. There are currently 4,724 active patients in the city.
