23-Yr-Old Posts Ex-GF’s Private Pics On Social Media In Mumbai; Arrested

Mumbai: Mumbai Police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting his ex-girlfriend’s private photos on social media. The duo had moved to Mumbai for work.

After the woman secured a job as domestic help, the accused reportedly harassed her and forced her to give him her monthly salary.

The accused has been identified as Romanish Lakra, a resident of Assam, who moved to Mumbai with his then-girlfriend in 2019 in search of a job. While the woman secured a job as domestic help, the man went to live with his sister in Nehru Nagar, Juhu. Police officials said that Lakra was harassing the woman and forcing her to pay her full salary every month.

According to the police, the two met on May 5 and the woman broke up with him. On refusing, Lakara threatened to post personal photos of the woman online. However, he did not heed her threats.

Police said, when the woman reached home, she came to know that Lakara had uploaded her personal picture as his WhatsApp display photo and posted several other pictures as status updates on the same app. A day later, Lakara created a fake Facebook profile for the woman and posted private pictures of her along with his mobile number on the page.

When he started getting calls, he informed his employer about the incident and they took him to the Vanrai police station and lodged a complaint.

PSI Rani Puri of Vanrai police station said that they laid a trap to stop the accused by calling the woman to Dadar police station on Wednesday and asking her to collect the money demanded, “We laid a trap at Dadar station and arrested the accused for extortion and under sections of the Information Technology Act,” said Puri.
