4 Lakh Masks Worth ₹1 Crore Seized In Mumbai To Curb Hoarding

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has raided a warehouse in the city and seized four lakh masks worth ₹ 1 crore to curb hoarding of essential commodities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

An official said that police found 200 boxes of face masks. Police lodged an FIR against five people including the owner of the warehouse, an agent and a supplier but no one was arrested.

The official said the raids were carried out at Shah Warehousing and Transport Godown, a suburban area in Mumbai.

Vile Parle Police was informed on Tuesday night that large quantities of face masks have been stored in the warehouse. The official said that police reached the spot and the value of 200 mask boxes was estimated to be around one crore.

The officer said the police registered an FIR against five people, including the owner, agent and supplier of the warehouse, but no arrests were made.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Singhe said that legal action is being taken against the five. He said that hoarding of essential items like face mask and sanitizer is a crime.

On Monday evening, the Mumbai crime branch Unit 9 had seized 25 lakh high-quality masks worth ₹15 crores.
