49.80 Per Cent Voting Was Held In Karnataka At 3 pm

Mumbai: Around 49.80 per cent voters turned out to cast their votes till 3 pm in 14 constituencies of Karnataka.

Officials said that the highest turnout was recorded at 54.88 per cent in Shimoga and the lowest at 42.01 per cent in Gulbarga till 3 pm.

Voting began at 28,022 polling stations at 7 am, which is mostly in the northern part of the state, covering entire Hyderabad-Karnataka and Mumbai-Karnataka regions, the cumulus of central districts and coastal Uttara Kannada.

2,43,03,279 out of 237 candidates are eligible to cast their votes in the second phase.

In the 14 constituencies of the second phase, the BJP is contesting all the seats, whereas Congress and JD (S), which have a coalition, have fielded candidates in 12 and two constituencies respectively, according to the arrangement of seat sharing.

At present, only four out of 14 seats are in the Congress – Chikkodi, Gulbarga, Bellary, Raichur – while the BJP has its own MPs in 10 seats.

In the southern part of the state covering the Old Mysore area, elections to 14 constituencies and some coastal districts were held on April 18, in which total 68.81 per cent voting was held.
