50 People Died In Heavy Rains, Flash Floods In Telangana

Mumbai: The state government said on Thursday that torrential rains and flash floods killed at least 50 people in Telangana in the last few days.

An official release said that eleven people died from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, officials said in a review meeting of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Citing preliminary estimates, Rao said that the state’s heavy rains on Wednesday resulted in a loss of more than Rs 5,000 crore, flooding several low-lying areas, and affecting the state capital the most.

He said that he has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to immediately release Rs 1,350 crore for relief and rehabilitation works.

Meanwhile, as many as 109 teams of the NDRF comprising of modern rescue equipment are deployed in various parts of the country for the prompt response during flood & other emergencies, of which 24 fully equipped teams are deployed widely in Telangana, Karnataka & Maharashtra, reports ANI quoting NDRF.
