500 People Booked For Flouting COVID-19 Norms At Birthday Party In Thane

Mumbai: The police have registered a case against around 500 people for allegedly violating the COVID-19 norms by gathering for a birthday celebration at Dombivli in Maharashtra’s Thane district.

Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) said in a statement on Thursday, the birthday party was held in Desalpada on the night of 17 and 18 February.

KDMC ward officer Akshay Gudge had received a complaint that people had gathered in large numbers to celebrate the birthday of the local resident without following the coronovirus norms and maintaining social distance.

Following the vigil, the civic authorities visited the premises and later lodged a complaint at the Manpada police station against around 500 people, including the host and attendees.

The police have lodged FIRs against them under sections 269 and 270 of IPC (negligence and malicious act of spreading infection of diseases), 188 (disobedience to order duly ordered by public servant) and disaster management control rules against the mob.

No arrest has been made in this connection so far, police said.
