Mumbai: The Railway Ministry said on Monday that it has touched a milestone on Sunday by originating 500 labour trains from Mumbai Central Division.

It states that 30 trains are operated every day at Surat station.

The ministry said, “In Mumbai Central Division, Western Railway, we touched a milestone yesterday at the core of 500 Shramik trains, since May 1, with a total of 508 trains. We have produced 30 consecutive trains per day at Surat station.”

Earlier in the day, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Railways has successfully operated more than 3,000 labour-specific trains to send migrant workers stranded in different parts of the country to their home states.

The Shramik special trains were operationalised after a directive by the Ministry of Home Affairs allowing the movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students, and other persons stranded at different places amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
