51-Yr-Old Man Sells Newborn Grandson For ₹60,000 in K’taka’s Davanagere

Mumbai: Four persons were arrested for selling a newborn baby boy for ₹60,000 in Karnataka’s Davanagere, officials said.

The incident took place around the first week of June and just a few days after the baby boy was born.

“A 19-year-old woman named Suchitra gave birth to a baby boy on June 6 at CG Hospital. She lives in Ramnagar in Davangere and her husband is a contract driver for Road Rollers. Davangere Superintendent of Police CB Rashyant told HT on Sunday that Suchitra’s father Basappa, 51, sold the child for Rs 60,000.

He said that the woman’s father Basappa sold the child to Bhimamma and Halesha, who are residents of Navile village. The official said that there was also a mediator between the two sides, Purushottam.

The SP said, ‘As soon as we got the information, we handed over the child to the Child Welfare Commission and now the newborn is with the mother.

He said that all four have been arrested for the crime and an FIR has been registered.
