54-Yr-Old Man Chasing Phone Thief Gets Hit By Train, Dies In MP

Mumbai: A 54-year-old man died in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol after being hit by a train while chasing a phone thief, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Shahdol railway station late on Sunday night. The deceased Manoj Nema was working as a teacher in a private school.

Government Railway Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Jethu Singh said that he was going to Sagar by Durg-Ajmer train on Sunday night when an unknown person asked for his mobile phone and that someone should be called immediately.

However, when the train slowed down before stopping at Shahdol station, the accused started running away with Nema’s phone.

After this Nema started chasing him but slipped on the track. The officer said that he was hit by the train and died.

The police later arrested a suspect, identified as Rajendra Singh, resident of Kheri village in Shahdol, and recovered a mobile handset from him, the official said, adding that further probe into the case is on.
