76-Yr-Old Rapes Minor By Luring Her With ₹10 In Chhattisgarh, Held

Mumbai: Two men, including a 76-year-old, were arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl multiple times by luring her with ₹10 in Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday.

According to preliminary investigation, a few days before the incident came to light, on Saturday, a woman raped the girl after informing her parents.

Balodabazar Kotwali Police Station Officer (SHO) Yadumani Sidar said the accused, identified as Kunjram Verma (76) and Ramesh Verma (47), were arrested on July 31 based on a complaint by the victim’s parents who work as ragpickers.

The incident came to light on Saturday when a woman in the neighbourhood of the victim saw her coming out of the houses of the two accused and informed her parents.

According to the complaint, Kunjram lives in the same locality where the girl lives and used to rape her by promising to pay Rs 10 every time. The police officer said that Ramesh, who knew Kunjram, also started sexually abusing the girl by luring him with the same amount of money.

“When a woman in the neighbourhood spotted the girl coming out of the houses of the two men, she informed her mother. After the girl narrated her ordeal, her parents lodged a case,” he said.

Siddar said the girl, who was suffering from abdominal pain, was admitted to the hospital, where her condition is said to be stable.

The SHO said that the accused have been booked for gang rape and further investigation is on under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
