86.25% New COVID Cases in 6 States: Govt

Mumbai: The Ministry of Health said on Monday that Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are the six states that account for 86.25 per cent of new coronovirus cases in the last 24 hours.

The ministry said Maharashtra recorded the highest number of 11,141 new daily cases, followed by 2,100 and Kerala with 1,043 new infections.

The Center is regularly holding high-level review meetings with states and union territories, which are showing an increase in new daily affairs and the Health Secretary is also holding weekly review meetings.

The ministry said in a statement, “Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are registering an increase in new cases of COVID daily. They constitute 86.25 per cent of the new cases reported in the last 24 hours.”

The Centre has encouraged high-level public health teams with COVID-19 control and prevention measures in Maharashtra and Punjab in the recent spike in cases.

The central government said that it has already deputed high-level teams in Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Jammu and Kashmir to support them in their fight against the recent spike in COVID-19 cases.

The ministry said, “These teams interact with state / UT officials and gain a first-hand understanding of the challenges and issues faced by them to strengthen their ongoing activities and bottlenecks.

It states that eight states and union territories – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka and Haryana are performing upward in new cases daily.

They have a weekly positivity rate that exceeds the national average of 2.29 per cent. The government stated that Maharashtra has the highest weekly positivity rate with 11.13 per cent.

The number of active cases in the country reached 1,88,747 on Monday and is 1.68 per cent of the total infections.
