9 Out Of 10 Samples Of Suspected Monkeypox Patients Test Negative In Maha

Mumbai: As many as nine out of ten samples of suspected monkeypox patients sent to Pune’s National Institute of Virology (NIV) have tested negative, an official said.

Pradeep Awte, the monitoring officer of epidemic-prone diseases in Maharashtra, said that the result of one patient is yet to come.

No case of monkeypox has been reported in the state so far.

These ten samples were sent to the NIV last month, Dr Awte said.

He said the state health department is not disclosing the details and locations of suspected patients so that they do not face harassment.

The Maharashtra government recently directed doctors and health department officials to monitor patients who have returned from countries where monkeypox cases have been reported.
