A Decision Will Be Conveyed By BCCI: Virat Kohli On South Africa Tour

Mumbai: Indian Test captain Virat Kohli is all set to return to the team for the second Test against New Zealand. Kohli, who was rested for the T20I series as well as the opening Test against New Zealand, is set to resume captaincy duties at the Wankhede.

Addressing a press conference ahead of the second Test, Kohli was asked if there was any update on India’s upcoming tour of South Africa.

In his reply, Kohli said that the newly appointed head coach Rahul Dravid has started talks and the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be conveyed to the team in the coming days.

“Lots of plans are going on. Rahul Bhai (Dravid) has started talks. Need to be realistic, don’t want to be in a situation where there is confusion. We’re sure that decision will be conveyed to us by the board in the coming days,” Kohli said at the conference.

It was reported that players who are not part of the Test squad for the New Zealand series were asked to be part of the quarantine and bubble.

“It’s very natural, we are not playing in normal times so there is a lot of planning involved, a lot of preparation which is involved in understanding what will actually happen,” Kohli said.

“There are players who are not part of the group right now and will enter quarantine to join the team in a bubble to fly in a charter. Things like this, you want clarity at the earliest, so we spoke to all the senior members of the squad.”

Kohli said clarity is expected on the South Africa tour soon, with the team’s focus on the second Test against New Zealand.

“We have been talking to the board and we are pretty confident within a day or two or pretty soon we will have absolute clarity as to what is going on,” said Kohli.

“We need to be realistic about things as well and should ignore the things which potentially can put you into a confusing place. Everyone is working hard towards finding clarity. We are all hopeful that will happen soon but prime focus in on second Test,” he added.

With Kohli’s return, one player will have to make way for the skipper. Mayank Agarwal is likely to be left out with debutant Shreyas Iyer producing a sensational performance in the opening Test.
