A.R. Rahman On His Oscar Stories: “I Was Just Starving To Look Thin For The Ceremony!”

Pune: It’s just 10 years have passed since the legendary movie Slumdog Millionaire was made which ruled the world to Oscars. Majorly, it won A.R. Rahman one of it’s biggest all time achievement and for any music composer in Bollywood. Rahman won 2 academy awards amongst which another was for the movie Jai Ho.

There was a hilarious incidence which the composer narrated to PTI regarding his condition during the time he was announced for it, “Actually nothing. I was just starving to look thin for the ceremony!”. He even added how hilariously Anil Kapoor missed the shot of his announcement for Golden Globe award, “I was sitting next to Anil and I was so thirsty. He was very kind and said he’ll get a Sprite for me. By the time he went and got it, I got the award”.

To this Anil laughed, “I’ll never forgive him! I was waiting for him to get an award. But he was thirsty so I said I’ll go. There was so much crowd at the bar counter, by the time I was back he got the award! But then I saw the Oscar, which was the cherry on the cake. You don’t know what I felt when he went on stage and the song was played. I wish I could break the protocol and start dancing on stage. I had to control myself”.

Rahman has also made his mark in Hollywood by giving songs for the movie 127 Hours, a survivor movie directed by Danny Boyle amongst which 2 of his original score went on to Oscar nominations in 2011 and recently was spotted talking about the journey on the 10 year completion ceremony of the Oscar victory.

However, he seems quite composed and moved on from the Oscar glares and much focused on work, “Yes. I have moved on because it’s a great identity for me and I needed that identity to be in Hollywood. Now, whenever I am mentioned there, people know my name. That helped me move further not just in music, but also producing movies and going into technologies like virtual reality and cinematic virtual reality and so much of the stuff that’s going to come this year. So, all this freedom came with this power.”
