Aaron Finch Becomes First Australian To Hit 100 Sixes In T20Is

Mumbai: Australia captain Aaron Finch on Thursday became the first batsman of his country to hit 100 sixes in T20Is. He achieved the milestone in the fourth T20I against New Zealand at Sky Stadium.

He has become the sixth batsman to enter the list of players who hit 100 or more sixes in T20Is. New Zealand’s Martin Guptill leads the table with 135 sixes, followed by India’s Rohit Sharma (127 sixes), England’s Eoin Morgan (113 sixes), Blackcaps Colin Munro (107 sixes) and West Indies’ Chris Gayle (105 sixes).

Finch also became the leading run-scorer for Australia in the shortest format of the game. He beat his early partner David Warner. In 70 matches, Finch scored 2,310 runs, including two centuries and 14 fifties.

He played an unbeaten inning of 79 to displace Warner from first place. Warner has 2,265 runs in 81 matches, including a ton and 18 fifties.

Finch played the captain’s innings and led Australia to a total score of 156/6 in 20 overs. 79 out of 55 included a maximum of four and five fours.

Australia has set a target of 157 for New Zealand who can win the game and win the series. The host team currently led the series 2–1, winning the first two matches by 53 and 4 runs.

However, the Finch-led team were successful in keeping the series alive as they registered a 64-run victory in the third T20I played at Westpac Stadium on Wednesday.
