Abu Jayed Aims At Playing XI From The 15 Member Squad

Mumbai: Abu Jayed who has been selected for Bangladesh in the 15 member squad says that he is targeting for the playing XI.

The 25-year-old has picked up 11 wickets in 5 tests and 4 wickets in 3 T20Is but is uncapped in ODI cricket. However, he looked impressive in the test series against New Zealand. He then went out for 9 scalps in 5 outings for Prime Dholeshar in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

“I played well in the two matches of DPL and felt like I would be selected in the 20 members preliminary squad but I was glad when I came to know that I’ve been selected in the 15 member squad and now the challenge is to make it in the playing XI and repay the faith that has been shown by the management,” Jayed said.

“I’ve been playing cricket for 10 years and now had the opportunity to play at different levels. So I don’t think it would be a big problem. Also, I got appreciation by New Zealand’s leading Batsmen that I have the ability to swing the ball very well and if I work on it I can be a very good bowler. Mashrafe (Mortaza) also said that he is optimistic about my ability to swing the ball,” he added.

Bangladesh will play its warm-up matches against Pakistan and India before and then head up its campaign against South Africa on June 2 at the Oval.
