After Krunal, Chahal And Gowtham Test Positive For COVID-19 In Sri Lanka

Mumbai: After Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal and Krishnappa Gowtham have tested positive for coronavirus in Sri Lanka.

Chahal and Gowtham were among Krunal’s eight close contacts who missed the last two T20Is after being sent into isolation. Following the COVID positive case, the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka was pushed back by a day

The three-match T20I series ended on July 29 and the rest of the Indian team will leave for India. At the same time, Kunal Pandya and other close people will remain in isolation in Sri Lanka itself. Soon after Kunal tested positive, he was shifted to another hotel while the other eight players were in the same hotel as the rest of the Indian team, but were separated from them.

Six other players who are currently in isolation are Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey and Deepak Chahar.

ESPNCricinfo reported the news of leg-spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Gautam testing positive and they are likely to be shifted to an isolation facility now.

Due to all these developments, India had to play with only five specialist batsmen in the last two T20Is of the series. Sri Lanka managed to beat the weaker side in both matches and won their first T20I series since 2019.

Meanwhile, as per the guidelines of the Sri Lankan government, a person who tests positive for the virus will have to self-isolate for 10 days. In addition, they have to go through a fresh round of tests and then pass them before leaving the country. Meanwhile, close contacts will remain in isolation for seven days and subsequent tests will have to be cleared.

These developments are certainly affecting the chances of Prithvi Shaw and Surya travelling to England. Both of them have been selected as injury replacements in the Indian Test team ahead of the Test series against England starting on August 4.
