After Sindhu, Nehwal Faces First Round Exit At Fuzhou China Open

Mumbai: Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal on Wednesday crashed out of the Fuzhou China Open after losing the first round match here at the Haixia Olympic Center.

The 29-year-old faced defeat at the hands of China’s Cai Yan Yan.

The World No.9 Saina lost 9-21, 12-21 in the women’s singles clash that lasted just 24 minutes to make an early exit.

Earlier in the day, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy were knocked out from the tournament after facing a defeat at the hands of Taiwan’s Wang Chi-Lin and Cheng Chi Ya 21-14, 21-14 in the mixed doubles competition.
Yesterday, in the men’s singles, HS Prannoy, who has recently recovered from dengue, faltered in the opening round, losing 17-21 18-21 to Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke.

Saina has been going through a tough phase with regards to her fitness since claiming the Indonesia Masters in January.

She made three consecutive first-round exits before reaching the quarterfinal of the French Open last month.

Earlier, World champion PV Sindhu was also knocked out from the same tournament in the opening round on Tuesday. PV Sindhu was knocked out of China Open after losing to Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po.
