AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi Denied Permission To Hold Rally In Mumbai On November 27

Owaisi had said that the AIMIM will stage protests across Maharashtra, demanding reservation for Muslims

Mumbai: Mumbai Police has denied permission to All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi from holding a rally at the iconic Bandra Kurla Complex on November 27, citing the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the restriction.

In an official statement, Mumbai said, “The permission was not granted in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, ban on public gatherings at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ground and the recent violence in some districts of the state.”

Demanding reservation for Muslims in the state, last week, Owaisi had said that the AIMIM will stage protests across Maharashtra.

“The court has admitted that 50 castes in the Muslim community should be granted reservation. However, while all political parties are supporting the Maratha community, no one is speaking about the reservation for Muslims,” Owaisi said, in a conference on November 18.

He added, “We will hold agitations in Maharashtra to press for our demand for reservations for Muslims. We want the state government to bring an ordinance in the Nagpur Assembly session for reservations.”

Extending support, the AIMIM chief further said that the Maratha community should also protest for reservation.

“The Maratha community in the state has been silent for many days. They should agitate and we will also join them,” he said.

The Hyderabad MP also condemned the recent violence in Maharashtra’s Amravati, Nanded and Malegaon, and sought an inquiry into the incident.
