Air India Announces Interim Payment of ₹25 Lakh to Families of Ahmedabad Crash Victims

Mumbai: In a tragic development that has shaken the nation, Air India on Saturday announced an interim payment of ₹25 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad. The announcement comes two days after an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI171, crashed shortly after takeoff, claiming 241 lives.
In an official statement posted on social media platform X, Air India said:
“As part of our continued efforts, Air India will be providing an interim payment of ₹25 lakh or approximately 21,000 GBP each to the families of the deceased and to the survivor, to help address immediate financial needs. This is in addition to the ₹1 crore or approximately 85,000 GBP support already announced by Tata Sons.”
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to standing by the grieving families, stating, “Air India stands in solidarity with the families of the passengers who tragically lost their lives in the recent accident. Our teams on the ground are doing everything possible to extend care and support during this incredibly difficult time.”

The ill-fated flight, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed into the premises of a medical college complex shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon. The only known survivor of the crash is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
This incident marks one of the deadliest air tragedies in Indian aviation history, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from across the country and around the world. Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, with aviation authorities, Air India, and international experts involved in the probe.
