Allow Players To Play IPL And BBL Sri Lanka’s Captain Dimuth Suggests Board

Mumbai: Backing his team Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne suggested his team management to send players in overseas tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Big Bash League (BBL) to get some experience.

On the eve of Sri Lanka’s last league match against India, Karunaratne said that there are good players in other countries because they compete in IPL, BBL and county cricket too. He further praised India’s domestic structure and said that Sri Lanka has only one season that is not enough to bridge the international gap.

“If you take other countries, they played a lot of cricket, like the IPL and the domestic structure in India is really good. In Sri Lanka, we have only one domestic season, players will have to show their talent in that special session. At the international level, there is a big difference, “said Karunaratne.

“We have to overcome that gap and play a lot of cricket, players will have the opportunity to play in IPL, Big Bash League or County Cricket. We have to allow them to play a foreign tournament and get some experience. I am expecting from the board, “he said.

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board gave the name of a wonderful team for the World Cup. They nominated Karunaratne as captain, who jolted the cricket community from behind, as he made his last ODI in 2015. There was no single bilateral ODI series since May 2016.

Sri Lanka is at sixth place on World Cup standings, which has eight points from many matches. The team has no chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, however, Karunaratne is hopeful of finishing Sri Lanka’s campaign on a high note.

He said, “We can finish it on a high note, if we win the game then we can stay in fifth or sixth place, that’s our plan, we are trying to do our best.”

Sri Lanka will play India in Leeds on July 6. Asked whether there is a plan for players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in his favor, Karunaratne considered Indian batsmen as dangerous and said that Sri Lanka needs to implement the plans against them.

“Every batsman has a weak point, we do not look like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli but we are checking one or two videos of all the top six batsmen, we have a plan for everyone, the point is that we actually We have to perform well, we know that they are very good. Dangerous, once set, they go for a big, “he said.
