Amar Jawan Jyoti Merged With Flame At National War Memorial; Pic Surfaces

Mumbai: The Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate has been merged with the flame at the National War Memorial, with pictures of the military parade surfacing online.

Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Marshal B R Krishna presided over the ceremony.

In this half-hour long ceremony, a portion of the Amar Jawan Jyoti Jwala was taken to the National War Memorial and merged into the flame, which is 400 meters away from the other side of India Gate.

The Amar Jawan Jyoti was built as a memorial to the Indian soldiers who died in the Indo-Pak war of 1971, which India won, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. It was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 26 January 1972.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi had on February 25, 2019, inaugurated the National War Memorial, where names of 25,942 soldiers have been inscribed in golden letters on granite tablets.
