Amazon Fire: Nearly Half Of Brazil Covered In Smoke
Mumbai: Since the last two weeks, the world’s largest rainforest, the Amazon forest has been burning at a disturbing rate.
Satellite data released by Brazil’s National Institute for space research shows an 84% increase in forest fire compared to the same time period in 2018.
Twitter is blasting with images of fire devouring sections of the world’s largest rainforest.
#prayforamazonas was the top trending hashtag in the world on Wednesday. A commercial flight has been diverted as several cities, including Sao paulo are covered in thick smoke in the recent days. 75000 forest fires were recorded in the brazil rainforest this year alone.

The states that have been most affected by fires this year are
Mato Grosso, Para and Amazonas all the states are in the amazon region, accounting for 41.7% of all fires. The people of Brazil are blaming the President bolsonaro’s environmental policies which favor development over conservation.
The head of Brazil’s space research center was forced to vacate his position after standing up to the President’s accusations that deforestation data has been manipulated to pull down the image of his administration.
