Mumbai: Indian boxer Amit Panghal received a silver medal in the 52kg category at the AIBA World Boxing Championships 2019 in Russia on Saturday, after landing against Olympic champion Shakhobidin Zoirov.
Amit became the first Indian male boxer to win a silver medal at the World Championships. The bout was defeated after a 5: 0 decision in favor of Zoirov.
Amit lost the bout 5–0 but the scoreline did not suggest Amit give a tough fight against Zoirov. Amit’s boxing for India at the World Boxing Championships 2019 ended a dream as the country achieved its best medal.

In the first round, Zoirov dominated the match a bit, but Amit gave the Rio Olympics gold medalist some heavy blows. In the second round, Amit’s coaches were constantly counting down the time to let Rohtak know.
