Amit Shah Presented Jammu And Kashmir Amendment Bill in Rajya Sabha, Proposed To Increase President’s Rule In State For 6 Months

Mumbai:  Home Minister Amit Shah presented the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Shah also stepped up his resolve to increase President’s rule for six months in the valley.

The Home Minister expressed the hope that the Upper House will understand the current situation of Jammu and Kashmir and vote in favor of the Bill.

While the Samajwadi Party announced its support for the expansion of President’s rule in the state, the Congress opposed it.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) said that it will support the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Bill and extension of President rule in the state in the Rajya Sabha.

In the last week, Shah passed a statutory resolution in the Lok Sabha to extend President’s rule under Article 356 for six months in Jammu and Kashmir from July 3, 2019, which stated that “to maintain law and order. The presidential rule is important for the state “. While canceling the proposal, Shah also noted that elections in the state can not be held anymore, one reason is the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

He said, “It is not possible to make elections now in Jammu and Kashmir. Election Commission has decided to hold elections by the end of the year. Over the last several decades, elections have not been held in the state during these months.
