Announce Polls In 6 Days Or I’ll Return To Islamabad For Protest: Imran Khan To Pak Govt

Mumbai: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan gave a six-day ultimatum to the country’s government to dissolve assemblies and announce elections.

He called the government “imported” and said that he will return to Islamabad for a protest after six days.

As Imran Khan’s Azadi March began on Wednesday, clashes broke out between party workers and policemen at several places in Punjab, Karachi and Lahore. Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez took to Twitter complaining that petrol pumps in Lahore ran out of fuel; ATMs were out of money.

Before the march entered Islamabad, the army was called in to protect the city’s red zone, which included important structures such as the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister’s residence, etc, which Imran Khan wanted to create a ‘peaceful protest’.

Islamabad was cordoned off and police fired tear gas when police were denied entry into the march as Islamabad became a battlefield on Thursday.

Pakistan’s Geo News claimed that its office was attacked by PTI supporters in which some journalists were injured.

Imran Khan reached Islamabad and addressed the march, where he said the government would be happy if he staged a sit-in as it would lead to more clashes between his party and the police.

“I had decided that I will sit here until the government dissolves assemblies and announces elections, but of what I have seen in the past 24 hours, they (govt) are taking the nation towards anarchy.”

The PTI chairman also claimed that five protesters from his party were killed in clashes.
