Anupam Kher Backs Bhumi Pednekar And Tapsee Pannu On Ageism Row, Says, ‘Such Criticism Is Wrong’

Mumbai: Anupam Kher, who played the role of a 65-year-old man in his twenties in film Saransh, his first film. Anupam Kher expresses disappointment after seeing people criticise the young actress Tapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar taking the characters of an old woman in the film ‘Sand ki Aankh’.

“Such criticism is wrong. I don’t find any logic in it. It’s actor job to challenge self and do something beyond the comfort zone and make it interesting. I was in my 20s when I portrayed a 65-year-old man in my first film. People appreciate my performance. So why not now? Why are these talented actress being criticized? I have not seen ‘Sand ki Aankh’ but I am proud of girls that they have essayed the role of an older woman.” Acting ka Matlab ye hi hora hai ki Kisi Bhi role ko bekhoobi nibhaye,” Anupam told IANS.

While supporting Tapsee and Bhumi, Anupam shared that he does not agree with Neena Gupta and Soni Razdon views on the controversy.

Neena tweeted, “Yes I was just thinking about this humari umar ke role toe kamse kam humse Kara lo Bhai.” Even Soni Razdon has felt that makers of the film should have approached senior actor for the roles.

On the work front, Anupam Kher is waiting for the release of his upcoming film ‘Hotel Mumbai’s which recounts the terror attack at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in 2008. Also, he has come with autobiography titled “Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly.”
