Arrest Me If You Can: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee To BJP On Corruption Charges

Mumbai: In the midst of defilement accusations against the Trinamool Congress (TMC)- drove government in West Bengal, and party supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday challenged the BJP to arrest her if they can.

Her assertions come in the background of senior TMC pioneers Partha Chatterjee and Anubrata Mondal getting arrested in school jobs scam and alleged cattle smuggling case, respectively.

Banerjee, who attended a rally of her party’s student wing in Kolkata, said a malicious campaign has been launched against her and other Trinamool Congress stalwarts like Kolkata Mayor and state Minister Firhad Hakim and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

She said, ‘BJP is calling everyone a thief. They are campaigning like we are all thieves in TMC and only BJP and its leaders are holy. Had I not been in politics, I would have torn their tongue.”

The Bengal Chief Minister further said that the BJP is using its “mis-earned money” as well as central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) along with its “ill-gotten money” to oust elected non-saffron party governments across India.

She said Hakim could be arrested next time as he was summoned by central agencies recently. “If he is arrested, you can rest assured that it will be a fake case, just to harass him,” Banerjee said.

She sought answers from the saffron unit as to where it was getting “thousands of crores to remove elected state governments as per the Maharashtra model”.

The Bengal chief minister vowed to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, saying the party was hoarding money abroad “through hawala”.

Banerjee said that despite the arrest of Chatterjee in the school job scam, nothing has been proved so far and the media trial is going on. He said that the BJP is intimidating the media, judiciary and political parties and using Pegasus to snatch the freedom of the people.

Banerjee’s statement came in a video of TMC MLA and Bengal minister Shrikant Mahata saying that the entertainment industry legislators are “robbing the party”, and the leadership is sidelining honest workers.

According to the ANI report, on the instructions of Abhishek, Mahto was issued a show cause notice for maligning the image of the party.
