As Long As BJP Is In India, Minorites Won’t Get Reservation: Shah

Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah targeted the Congress on Saturday over alleged plans for “Muslim reservation,” stating that as long as the BJP is in power, no minority will receive reservations.

Speaking at a rally in Palamu, Jharkhand, Shah accused the Congress of attempting to reduce the reservation limits for OBCs, Dalits, and tribals to accommodate a 10% quota for Muslims, which he claims contradicts the Constitution. He warned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, asserting, “Till the time BJP is present in this country, minorities won’t get reservations.”

Shah criticized Congress for being “anti-OBC,” alleging a history of injustice toward the OBC community by blocking the implementation of key initiatives, including the Kaka Kalelkar Committee and the Mandal Commission reports. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts, Shah highlighted the BJP’s commitment to OBCs, citing the 27% reservation introduced for OBCs in central institutions and the establishment of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) with constitutional status.

Turning his attention to the INDIA alliance government in Jharkhand, comprising the JMM, Congress, and RJD, Shah labelled it as “the most corrupt government in the country.”

He referenced the seizure of over ₹300 crore from a Congress MP’s residence, alleging extensive corruption within the state administration. Shah further claimed that Congress and Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren took no action against senior officials implicated in financial misconduct, despite the seizure of ₹30 crore from the house of a minister’s personal assistant.

Shah concluded his appeal by urging voters to elect a BJP government in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, promising to combat corruption and hold officials accountable. The state’s 81-member Assembly will go to polls on November 13 and 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
