Asaduddin Owaisi Asks Modi Govt To Clear ‘India’s Stance On Taliban

Mumbai: Days after the Indian envoy to Qatar met a senior Taliban leader in Doha, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday attacked the central government asking it to clear the country’s stand on the Taliban.

“It’s a matter of national security. The Centre must clear India’s stand on Taliban whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government see them as a terrorist organisation or not?” asked the AIMIM chief.

His remarks came after India’s Ambassador to Qatar Deepak Mittal met a senior Taliban leader in Doha, the Indian Foreign Ministry said in the first officially sanctioned meeting between the two sides.

The discussions between the two sides focused on safety, security and early return of Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan. The travel of Afghan nationals, especially minorities, who wish to visit India also came up, the Indian foreign ministry said.
