Auraiya Road Accident: Mayawati Seeks Strict Action Against Officials Who Failed To Ensure Safety Of Migrants

Mumbai: In a collision between two trucks in Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh, 24 migrant laborers were killed in a day, BSP president Mayawati on Saturday asked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure that the workers were taken care of by the authorities for the safety of workers trapped in the house instructions are being implemented.

He asked the parties in power at the Center and various states to rise above petty politics in this hour of crisis and try to make it home amid coronavirus-forced lockdowns to ensure the safety of migrants.

“Yesterday I saw the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh announcing on TV that all necessary arrangements were being made for the migrants. But it seems that the authorities are not implementing it at the ground level which has led to a large accident and it is the most unfortunate, ”Mayawati said in a statement.

A truck full of migrant laborers collided in Auraiya in the morning. While one truck was coming from Rajasthan, the other was from Delhi. The trailer truck hit a stationary vehicle when some workers stopped to drink tea at a local shop on the Auraiya-Kanpur countryside road.

“If the authorities had arranged for their food and other things, they would not have landed at a tea shop in Auraiya,” she said, demanding strict action against the officials who failed to fulfill their responsibilities.

The BSP supremo also asked the Central and State Governments and Railways to be serious on the issue of sending migrants to safe houses.

She also appealed to migrant laborers not to try to reach home on foot, instead wait for buses and trains.

“Instead of walking home, they should go to the nearest railway station. Then the government will be forced to make arrangements for them,” she said.

The BSP chief asked the government to make proper arrangements for the injured and financial assistance for the victims.
