Balakot Air Strike Planner Samant Goel Appointed As New RAW Chief

Mumbai: In another development, centre appointed IPS officer Samant Goel as the new Research and Analysis Wing chief.

This comes three months after Samant Goel played a key role in India’s counter-attack on the terror infrastructure in Pakistan’s Balakot.

On the other hand, the Centre also appointed senior IPS officer Arvind Kumar as Director of Intelligence Bureau. He is considered as the expert in matters related to Kashmir.

Appointments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also work as Chairman of the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet.

Samant Goel will replace Anil Dhasmana as the chief of the premier spy agency. Whereas Arvinda Kumar will be replacing Rajiv Jain as the new chief of the Intelligence Bureau.

Both the IPS officers are from the 1984 batch and manage the post of DG. Goyal is from Punjab cadre while Kumar is from Assam-Meghalaya cadre.

Three months back Samant Geol was the head operations for the agency and was instrumental in planning the February 2019 Balakot air strikes and also the 2016 surgical strikes.

Whereas, in 2016, surgical strike was carried out after a terror attack in Uri, where terrorists had targeted an army camp. The total casualty in the attack was more than 20. Goel is considered a Pakistan expert in the R&AW.
