Bangladesh’s Reaction Was Dirty: India U-19 Captain On Players Clashing After Final

Mumbai: U19 India’s captain Priyam Garg termed opponent’s reaction as ‘dirty’, his statement comes after Bangladesh and India’s teams engaged in a spat after U19 World Cup ended.

Bangladesh defeated India by three wickets (DLS method) in the final of the tournament to win their first title at Senwes Park here on Sunday. After the match, the two teams exchanged words and made some pushes as well.

“We were easy,” ESPN Cricinfo quoted Garg as saying. “It is part of the game and part of the game. You win some and you lose some. But his reaction was dirty. I think that did not happen.”

The captain of the winning team, Akbar Ali, also said that the incident should not have happened and apologized for it.

“What happened, it shouldn’t [happen]. I don’t know what really happened. I didn’t ask what was going on. But, you know, in the final, emotion can come out, and sometimes the boys were getting pumped, and emotions were coming through,” Ali said.

“As a youngster, it shouldn’t happen. In any position, in any manner, we have to show respect to the opponent, we should have respect for the game. Cricket is known for being a gentleman’s game. So I’ll say, I’ll be sorry for my team,” he added.

Meanwhile, Indian team manager Anil Patel has said that team management does not have a clear picture of the incident. He also said that the ICC has told the Indian team management that the match referee will study the footage of the final minutes of the match and update them on Monday.

“We don’t know what actually happened,” Patel told ESPNcrcinfo. “Everybody was in a shock, absolutely, but we don’t know what happened exactly. The ICC officials are going to watch the footage of the last few minutes and they are going to let us know.

He further said that the Indian team management wanted to talk to the match officials. However, the match referee himself approached him and apologized about the incident. Patel also confirmed that the ICC has taken the matter very seriously.

“The referee came to me. He regretted the incident. He clarified that the ICC is going to be taken very seriously during the match and the last season and they are watching the footage and they will tell us in the morning [on the next stage].
