Bharat Is A Hindu Rashtra And Hindus Must Protect It: RSS’ Bhagwat

Mumbai: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized that “Bharat is essentially a Hindu Rashtra,” calling upon Hindus to take responsibility for the welfare of the nation. Addressing a gathering of RSS volunteers in Baran, Bhagwat stressed the need for unity, cultural preservation, and active contribution toward India’s progress.

“Hindus have lived on this land for thousands of years, upholding its traditions, culture, and values,” Bhagwat remarked, urging Hindus to protect the nation’s cultural heritage and foster harmony across communities. He also encouraged them to take collective action rather than relying solely on divine intervention.

“Hindus have a habit of outsourcing responsibility, often saying ‘Bhagwan Bachao’ (God save us). However, God helps those who help themselves,” Bhagwat noted, citing the Mahabharata where Krishna supported the Pandavas only after they made their own efforts. “We must take steps to care for Bharat Ma, while bringing everyone along, as that is the essence of our culture and tradition,” he added.

Emphasizing Unity and Responsibility

Bhagwat reiterated the RSS’s view of India as a Hindu nation, explaining that the term “Hindu” has historically been used to describe all sects residing in India. “Hindus consider everyone as their own and accept all. Through continuous dialogue and goodwill, we must live together harmoniously,” he said, reinforcing the importance of unity across diverse communities.

During the event, Bhagwat urged RSS volunteers to engage actively with local communities, promoting social harmony, education, healthcare, and self-reliance. “Efforts should be made to address deficiencies in society by providing necessary support. We must focus on social justice, health, and education,” he emphasized.

He also called for the Hindu community to overcome internal divisions based on language, caste, and region, advocating for a unified society grounded in goodwill, fraternity, and discipline. “It is not just about ‘me and my family,’ but about attaining God through a comprehensive concern for society,” Bhagwat stated.

The Work of the Sangh: Value-Based and Unparalleled

Mohan Bhagwat highlighted the uniqueness of the RSS’s mission, describing it as “idea-based” rather than mechanical. He explained that the values of the Sangh are passed down from group leaders to volunteers and then to families, creating a strong societal foundation. “The Sangh is as incomparable as the sea or the sky, with its values being the cornerstone of personal and societal development,” he said.

Bhagwat also linked India’s global reputation to the strength of the nation, stressing the importance of national integrity for the safety of expatriates. “The expatriates of a strong nation are respected, while those of weaker nations are often asked to leave. The greatness of India is crucial for every citizen,” he concluded.
