Bihar Floods: Four Died, 18 Lakh People Affected

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, the flood situation in Bihar has inclement with four deaths reported while around 18 lakh people were affected in nine districts of the state, said reports.

According to the report of the Disaster Management Department, due to the rains in the catchment areas attached to the Nepal border, five rivers of the state are flowing above the danger level. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has done an air survey of flood affected areas.

As per reports, out of four deaths two were belong from Araria, while one each was reported from Sheohar and Kishanganj districts.

A total of 17,96,535 people have been hit affected in 55 blocks of nine districts – Sheohar, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, Madhubani, Araria, Kishanganj, Supaul, Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur.

It has been said in the report that 13 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed for relief and rescue work in affected districts. To provide shelter to 45,053 people, 152 relief camps have also been opened, while 251 community kitchens have been made functional.

Where as in Bihar the level of Kamala River rises following heavy rainfall in the area; several villages in Darbhanga flooded. (14.07.2019)

Kumar has instructed officials to speed up relief and rescue work. Nepal’s lowland area has received about 280 to 300 mm of rain, causing floods in the state, causing Bagmati, Kamla Balan, Lalbakeya, Advara and Mahananda to flare above the level of danger at different places.

Patna Meteorological Center has forecast rain in many places in Bihar with the thunderstorms in the coming days.
