BJP Announces ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan As Its CM Candidate In Kerala

Mumbai: BJP on Thursday announced that E Sreedharan, popularly known as the ‘Metro Man’, would be the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections.

Sreedharan joined the BJP in February and showed interest in the election for the post of Chief Minister.

BJP Kerala chief Surendran informed about ‘Metro Man’ to join the race of CM. On 19 February, the technocrat said that if the BJP comes to power, it is ready to act as the chief minister.

Sreedharan said last month that he is working for the betterment of his state in electoral politics.

According to news agency PTI, Sreedharan said, “If the BJP wins the Kerala Assembly elections, the focus will be on getting the state out of the debt trap and developing the infrastructure there.”

Incidentally, it is Sreedharan’s last working day today in the uniform of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

“The main reason for joining BJP is that both UDF and LDF governments do many things here. Mention of doing something for Kerala. For this, I have to stand with the BJP,” the 88 years old.

Asked why he was eyeing the post of CM and not the Governor, Sreedharan said that he believed that he would not be able to contribute much to the state from the Raj Bhavan and that the “constitutional position of the Governor has no power at all”.

Sreedharan is an acclaimed techno secretary, who is known for his achievements in changing the face of large transport system not only in our country but also abroad.
