BJP Finalizes Seat-sharing In Jharkhand, To Contest On 68 Seats
Mumbai: In a significant development ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its seat-sharing arrangement with its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners. The BJP, leading the charge, will contest 68 of the 81 assembly seats, while its allies, the All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), will contest the remaining seats. During a press conference on Friday, BJP’s election committee co-incharge for Jharkhand, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, detailed the alliance’s seat distribution. AJSU will contest in 10 key constituencies, JD(U) in 2, and LJP in 1. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also the co-incharge of BJP’s Jharkhand election committee, emphasized the importance of the upcoming elections, describing them as crucial for “saving the identity of Jharkhand” from what he described as the “ruin” caused by the INDI Alliance government.
“The NDA will emerge victorious and strong in the Jharkhand elections,” Sarma stated, while also noting that seat allocations could be adjusted if necessary as the situation evolves.
Seat Distribution Details for NDA Allies
As per the seat-sharing agreement, the All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU) will contest the following 10 constituencies:
- Sili
- Ramgarh
- Gomia
- Isagarh
- Mandu
- Jugsalai
- Dumri
- Pakur
- Lohardaga
- Manoharpur
The Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] will contest the Tamar and Jamshedpur seats, while Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has been allotted the Chatra constituency.
NDA Candidates Announcement
Shivraj Singh Chouhan also stated that the NDA candidates for the Jharkhand Assembly elections will be announced soon. This seat-sharing pact reflects the NDA’s determination to secure a decisive victory in the Jharkhand polls.
Election Dates and Key Timeline
The 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections will be held in two phases—on November 18 and November 20, 2024. The results will be declared on November 23, 2024, with the BJP and its NDA allies aiming to reclaim the state from the ruling INDI Alliance.
With a comprehensive seat-sharing strategy in place, the BJP and its NDA partners are gearing up for a strong contest in the Jharkhand Assembly elections.
