BJP Govt Standing With People Who Commit Atrocities Against Girls: Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lambasted on ruling party BJP saying that they (BJP) are standing with those committing atrocities against girls and arresting his party members who are protesting against it.

“BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is standing with those committing atrocities against girls and arresting Congresspeople who are protesting. But in this path of struggle, our people will stand on the streets and will face oppression. #BJPBhagaoBetiBachao” he tweeted.

Gandhi’s tweet came after the Shahjahanpur district administration refused permission to conduct a ‘padayatra’ in support of a student accused of raping BJP leader and former Union minister Swami Chinmayananda.

According to the letter, the public meeting was to be held at 10 am on Monday, after which a ‘padayatra’ was taken out from the Congress office in the town and passed through several places like Sadar Bazar, Bahadurganj and Ghantaghar en route to Lucknow.

“This is to inform you that the festival season is currently underway and Navratri, Durga Puja and Dussehra are being organized. The proposed route of ‘Padayatra’ passes through busy markets, due to which it is not possible to provide police protection.” The letter states that the place cannot accommodate about 2,000 people during a public meeting.

“As Section 144 (which prohibits the gathering of more than four people) is imposed in Shahjahanpur district, it is not possible to organize such a large-scale event. Therefore, the administration refused permission to organize a ‘Padayatra’ Have done it, “it said.

On September 20, a local court in Shahjahanpur sent Chinmayananda to 14 days judicial custody on charges of sexual harassment with a law student. He was not charged with rape, staring and criminal intimidation.

Earlier, during the SIT interrogation, the student admitted that she had instigated a friend to send a message to Chinmayananda to demand forcible money. After his confession, he was arrested and produced in court, which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
